Ingredients for Captain America Fruit Platter

- 1 pound fresh strawberries, sliced in half (choose ripe, firm strawberries for the best presentation)
- 11 ounces angel food cake bar (store-bought or homemade works fine)
- 12 ounces fresh raspberries (look for plump, vibrant berries)
- 6 ounces fresh blueberries (smaller berries work best for arranging)
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Prepare the strawberries: Line the outer edge of a large red plate with the halved strawberries. Alternate the direction of each strawberry for a visually appealing pattern.
- Slice the angel food cake: Cut the angel food cake bar into thirds lengthwise. Trim off the brown edges for a clean look.
- Cut out the star: Use a star-shaped cookie cutter to cut a star from one of the long pieces of angel food cake. Cut as close to the edge as possible to minimize waste. For a more prominent star, cut two stars and stack them.
- Cube the remaining cake: Cut the leftover angel food cake into 1-inch cubes.
- Arrange the cake: Place the cake cubes snugly inside the strawberry ring, filling the space evenly.
- Add the raspberries: Create a ring of raspberries just inside the cake cubes, placing them as close together as possible.
- Place the star and blueberries: Position the star-shaped cake piece(s) in the center of the platter. Surround the star with blueberries, filling in any gaps.
- Serve and enjoy: Your Captain America Fruit Platter is ready to impress! Serve immediately for the freshest taste.
Fun Topping Ideas to Elevate Your Platter
Add a drizzle of honey or a sprinkle of powdered sugar over the fruit and cake for a touch of sweetness. For a creamy twist, serve with a side of whipped cream or vanilla yogurt. If you’re feeling adventurous, a light dusting of shredded coconut or a few mint leaves can add extra flair and freshness!
Perfect Serving Suggestions for Any Occasion
This Captain America Fruit Platter is perfect for patriotic holidays, birthday parties, or even as a refreshing dessert after a summer BBQ. Pair it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a glass of lemonade for a complete treat. It’s also a great centerpiece for themed gatherings—just add some red, white, and blue decorations!
Time-Saving Tips for Busy Bakers
To save time, use pre-sliced strawberries and pre-cut angel food cake from your local bakery. If you’re short on time, skip the star shape and simply cube the cake for a quicker assembly. Pre-wash and dry your berries the night before to make the process even smoother.
Storage Tips to Keep It Fresh
This platter is best enjoyed immediately, but if you need to store it, cover it tightly with plastic wrap and refrigerate for up to 24 hours. Keep in mind that the cake may absorb moisture from the fruit, so it’s ideal to assemble it just before serving. For leftovers, store the fruit and cake separately to maintain texture.
Recipe Variations for Every Taste
Swap out the angel food cake for pound cake or sponge cake for a richer flavor. If raspberries aren’t your favorite, try blackberries or sliced kiwi for a different twist. For a tropical vibe, use pineapple chunks and mango slices instead of strawberries and blueberries. The possibilities are endless!
